The green green doors of studio

5.Dec.08

Last weekend (that is, future people, the last weekend of November 2008) we were in Glasgow recording some more songs for our next record. There’s too much to say about it, so lets filter…

We record mostly live. We decided to do it that way because the recordings we make at rehearsal - with a tiny japanese digital 4 track in the middle of the room - are always kind of loveable. And the stuff we did by multitracking everything lacked that loveability. Too clinical - Ha! as though we’re ever clinical! So because of that, and of course the lack of dead presidents, we decided to do the bulk of each track live. So we all stand there and play, just like normal. And Jamie, who’s recording us, is rather adept at making it work.

Its also all recorded to analogue tape rather than computer, which puts a whole load of limitations on the process. Which is a good thing. Like poetic form. But thats another subject.

Our chum Beth came to play her Clarsach too, and it sounded really good. Warm and resonant. Lovely.

So now Dan, who is mixing it for us, has 5 more tracks on his to do list. Actually, Dan is recording a session for Radio 1 on Friday, under his stage name Dan Lyth, which is also his sofa name, bus name, and all other places name. Have a look for his album Everything is Simple, which is really good. Everyone thinks so. Google it. Anyway, as long as Dan doesn’t get sidetracked pursuing his own career (selfish) we should have some songs ready soon.

Until then…
